Life as expat in Kolkata, India

Another journey of life, India - the second biggest population in the world.

The evening sky of Kolkata, very beautiful

Kolkata, it is an interesting place.

I started my new comfort zone in other part of world. It is excited and also worried. New place, new culture, new people, new language.

I have been here around 6 months. I learned myself basic hindi from youtube and website. It is very helpful to know some basic hindi to speak with the locals. Even it is hard to learn by myself, it takes time to understand because they speaks very quick. But luckily they understand english and they are very helpful.

I settle down very quickly. The weather as I arrived was summer time. It was pretty hot, I sweated like crazy. Then come the monsoon season, keep raining and sunshine - changing in an hour. It is quite interesting to experience monsoon season. Now it is winter time, it is pretty chill. I love it so far living in Newtown, Kolkata.

Here you may use the Ola cabs, uber cabs for your transportation which is easier to reach the destination. I haven't tried the subway.

For the monthly groceries, I highly recommended on BigBasket. It is reliable, worthed and top quality product, good delivery services. I always have good experience with BigBasket.

I use to buy daily needs in the local shop nearby our apartment. It has many choices for the small daily needs. They are very friendly. There are different fruit and vegetable items and grocery needs. please have a look on the website. He opens his supermarket last year www.medhyasbasket.com . This year he launches his online supermarket within 10 km in New town.

We stay in a Newtown of Kolkata which is further away from crowded city of Kolkata. It takes minimum 1 hour rides to the main city. Here in Newtown, I can find what I needs for the family needs. It is not far away from the mall and some interesting parks. The nearest malls are Axis Mall and City Center 2 Mall. For the daily needs, new clothes, dining and saloon, the mall offers us big range of choice.

I noticed that the locals love to spend time in the park. The park is always crowded in the holiday and weekend. Here in New Town there is Eco Park, Eco Urban Village, Nicco Park.

I and my husband love to try different kind of cuisine here in Kolkata. Most of the weekend, we went to our favorite restaurants which are Beijing restaurant, BBQ restaurant, Aminia restaurant. We love the indo-china foods which is served here in Kolkata, the local Indian food. It is just tasty. I will write down my review in other posts about the restaurant.
