Goobok Mandu - Bib Gourmand Dumpling Restaurant in Seoul

It is one of the snack restaurants that has won Bib Gourmand by Michelin for two consecutive years 2017 and 2018.
For the one that does not have an idea what Bib Gourmand is, let me copy it from Wikipedia.

"Since 1955, the Michelin guide has highlighted restaurants offering "exceptionally good food at moderate prices", a feature now called "Bib Gourmand". They must offer menu items priced below a maximum determined by local economic standards. Bib (Bibendum) is the company's nickname for the Michelin Man, its corporate logo for over a century."

Basically, a restaurant serves good authentic local food and tasty local food at a reasonable price could win this prize by fulfilling few criteria from Michelin.

This restaurant is operated by a couple who the Korean husband is responsible at the front of the house and the Chinese wife is the one created the delicious mandu for decades. With the highest demand in couple years, they have more personals who mostly able to speak Chinese and the restaurant is expanding last year which one side is for the kitchen operation and one side is for the dining area.

The restaurant is easily reached by public transportation (bus and subway). After exiting the gate number 3 from station Sookmyung Women University Station (Line 4), walk straight up toward the restaurant and we have seen a queue has been built up. We knew that we are in the right place.

The capacity of the restaurant is not pretty big, it can serve 30-40 people maximum in one shot. We have to be patient to wait outside the door. This experience is worth to wait. While waiting, the owner is very friendly and come out to let us know "Please be patient, you will get your table in around 10-15 minutes." He can speak English very well, there will be no communication boundary.
While waiting, we can have a peek in the kitchen how they prepare the mandu and cook the mandu.

After waiting around 12-15 minutes, we finally got the chance to enter the restaurant and place to sit and dine. The atmosphere is simple with minimal decoration and clean. Warm welcome from the owner by explaining to us what they have in the restaurant.

They specialize in mandu (dumplings) and have 4 type of dishes on the menu. We ordered each of them. The girl which I guess is his daughter has served us plates and water.

On the table, condiments have been placed such as chopped spring onion, chili powder, and soy sauce. The cutlery is always in the drawer next to the table.

After waiting for another 10-12 minutes, the moment which is worth to wait finally reached the table.

Classic pork dumplings (bottom side), Kimchi pork dumplings (top side) - KRW 5000

Xiao long pao (juicy pork dumplings) - KRW 7000

Shrimp dumplings - KRW 7000
In the small condiment bowl, you may mix the chopped spring onion, ginger, chili powder, and soy sauce as a dipping sauce.

The dumplings are super tasty with the thin chewy skin, juicy meat which give wow taste bud.
