After being almost a year vacuum from writing my traveling blog, I come back with a new story from other parts of the world. Here I am, presenting some culinary stories from Sindorim neighborhood in Seoul.
Let me explore the neighborhood from the subway station. Sindorim subway station is centralized and connected to Hyundai Department store, Techno Mart, Gyeonggi-ro, e-Mart, Bus station.
There is quite a lot of choice of shops, supermarket to hypermarket, casual restaurants to high-end restaurants, cafe, bakeries, beauty shop, clothes, barber/salon, medical, bank and many more.
I will review some of the casual restaurants that I ever visited nearby the neighborhood and mostly these restaurants are visited by locals and always full in the lunch and after office time/dinner.
Mostly the restaurant in Korea, the service is quite simple and quick especially in the peak hour time (12:00-13.30 and 17:30-18:30). Please never expect a high standard of service in the casual restaurant, they sit you, give you the menu and bottle of water, take your menu, repeat your order, serve some side dishes, serve the meal and you may pay in the counter at the way-out. The most important is they are all very friendly.
In the food court, you place your order in the counter, pay for it, get your number if you don't sit on the counter, pick up your meal and return your tray after finishing the meal.
1. Kkanbu Chicken
It is located across the Hyundai D cube city, Gyeongin-ro, Sindorim Dong or under the Sindorim Daewoo Prugio #1 apartment.
This restaurant opens in the late afternoon around 4PM until late evening. It is good for the late snack. They serve mainly fried chicken (crispy and choice of spiciness) and beer which is very well known here in Seoul. It is called chimeg in the Korean language which means chicken and beer (maekju). I find this kind of restaurant all over the neighborhood.
The chicken dishes cost 18000 Won (USD 18).
Here in Korea, beer costs 4 USD for 330 ml. It is a bit expensive compared to other countries that I ever visited.
2. Saigon Vietnamese
It is a casual restaurant which is located under the Sindorim Daewoo Prugio #1 apartment, Gyeongin-ro, Sindorim Dong
I love this restaurant and the meal is pretty tasty, good in portions and worthed. The service is pretty simple. You come, order the food and pay through a machine which is pretty normal in Japan and Korea. They will assist you if you feel confused or first-timer. We received a number to pick up the meal.
We have ordered Vietnamese pho and Vietnamese fried rice. We got a place on the 2nd floor, we have to notice the number and the meal is sent up through the small food elevator.
We picked up the meal and get some water, cutlery, condiments from the pantry.
After the meal, we returned the tray to the returned place. It could be said as a quick/fast food Vietnamese restaurant. But the food is prepared with fresh ingredients.
It costs range 4500-7000 Won (USD 4-7)

In Hyundai Department store, there are a lot of food and beverage stalls and restaurants, cafe, cake shop and bakery. Every two weeks, there is always new stores open up in a food-court area. I guess in Korean, the stall's contract is in the short term or long term. It is pretty exciting because there are always new things to see and try.
We decided to try the ramen noodle soup in one of the foodcourts. It tastes good and the portion was big. It cost around 9000Won or 9USD

This shop is quite small but they have the second shop across the main store. It is operated by ahjumma (aunty). They cook it fresh every day.
The pork knuckle is super delicate, soft and easily torn off from the bone.
